Origin
H FOR H owes its origins to community action that took place in Paravoor Government Hospital during the Chikan Gunia episode in 2007. As the number of patients needing medical attention increased manifold, the existing systems in the hospital could not cope with the demands. At that point, a number of volunteers from the community came forward to support the doctors in dealing with the situation. This relationship between the doctors and the community volunteers continued even after the epidemic episode was over. The volunteers then started working with the doctors in providing rapid assistance to accident victims as well as looking after patients in the hospital who did not have anybody else to support them socially or financially; hence the name Help for Helpless.
